Scientific Visa

The Research Promotion Foundation (RPF) has been nominated by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cyprus as the “Competent Authority” for the Approval of Research Organisations wishing to host Third Country Nationals Researchers, under the provisions of “Directive 2005/71/EC, on a specific procedure for admitting third-country nationals for the purposes of scientific research”, as transposed into Cypriot National Legislation under Law N.29(I)/2009 “Aliens and Immigration (Ammending) Law of 2009”.  

The RPF publishes and updates frequently the list of Research Organisations approved for the purposes of the abovementioned Law in the following List of Approved Research Organisations under the “Aliens and Immigration (Ammending) Law of 2009 (N.29(I)/2009)”

Public and Private Organisations wishing to apply for the Approval under the provisions of the abovementioned Law N.29(I)/2009 should use and submit to RPF the following Application for the Approval of a Research Organisation under the “Aliens and Immigration (Ammending) Law of 2009 (N.29(I)/2009)”.  

Research Organisations should submit to RPF a written undertaking that in cases where a Third Country National Researcher remains illegally in the territory of the Republic of Cyprus, the said Organisation is responsible for reimbursing the costs related to the Researcher’s stay and return incurred by public funds. The financial responsibility of the Research Organisation shall end at the latest six months after the termination of the Hosting Agreement. Research Organisations should use the following Certification of Undertaking Financial Responsibility.  

According to the provisions of Law N.29(I)/2009, a approved Research Organisation wishing to host a Third Country National Researcher shall sign a Hosting Agreement with the latter, whereby the Researcher undertakes to complete the research project and the Organisation undertakes to host the researcher. Research Organisations should use the following Template Hosting Agreement.
