Cyprus, through the RIF, is represented in various European partnerships, which aim to coordinate the funding of research and innovation actions and to establish research priorities at a pan-European level, through the formulation and implementation of Joint Research Programmes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n<style type=\"text\/css\" data-created_by=\"avia_inline_auto\" Partnerships in Horizon Europe<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>In view of the EU\u2019s new Framework Programme for research and innovation, Horizon Europe, the EC aims to streamline the number of partnerships in order to increase their effectiveness and impact on achieving Europe&#8217;s goals.<\/p>\n<p>There will be 3 types of partnerships:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Co-programmed partnerships<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These will be based on Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) or contractual arrangements aimed at joint planning and coordination of R&amp;I in the area concerned.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Co-funded partnerships<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>These will be based on the commitment of partners (public sector, industry, etc.) for joint implementation of a set of actions through relevant contributions (financial and in-kind).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Institutionalised partnerships <\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Based on Articles 185 or 187 of the TFEU and the EIT Regulation regarding Knowledge and Innovation Communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The final selection of the partnerships is being discussed by Member States and the EU in the context of the strategic planning process.<\/p>\n<p>In December 2019, the RIF led a national consultation on the participation of Cyprus in Horizon Europe European Partnerships, which included, among others, round table discussions with representatives of the country in the relevant Committees and experts in each area, contribution to the development of an action plan to decide on the partnerships Cyprus will EU\u2019s strategic autonomy in the electronic components and systems sector.<br \/>\nMore specifically, through the funded projects KDT Partnership aims to ensure that the EU has the necessary expertise in key enabling technologies to be a competitive leader of the world\u2019s digital economy. Innovative SMEs shall take the lead and exploit commercially the project results, thus improving their competitive position. cooperating with European countries and jointly addressing current social, economic, environmental and other challenges.<\/p>\n<p>To select and monitor Joint Planning Initiatives, the Council set up the High Level Planning Group (GPC). The Group has selected and supported the development of ten Joint Planning Initiatives (JPIs) that cover a wide range of international challenges. Cyprus has made a significant contribution to the operation of the Group, highlighted by the chairmanship of GPC for the period 2016-2019.<\/p>\n<p>Each JPI designs a Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), with the aim of identifying long-term research priorities in the relevant field. Based on the SRIA, a Joint Implementation Framework for common measures and actions is then set up by the participating countries. These measures include Joint Calls for Proposals involving bodies from Member States. These Calls are often funded by the participating countries and the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>A significant number (15-25) of European countries and the European Commission typically participate in each JPI. Their governance is determined by the participating countries. By providing and steering research FACCE-JPI supports sustainable agricultural production and economic growth, to contribute to a European bio-based economy, while maintaining and restoring ecosystem services under current and future climate change.<\/p>\n<p>In order to achieve its objectives, the JPI launches Joint Transnational Calls for Proposals. It is a European Joint Programme dedicated to the R&amp;D performing SMEs, and co-funded by the member countries. It is fine-tuned to focus on the needs of SMEs, and specifically targets the development of new products, processes and services and the access to transnational and international markets.
