The Research and Innovation Foundation announces the Science Communication competition “Science Unfold 2023”.  The competition is organised for the second year in a row, and is addressed to students of public and private Gymnasiums, Lyceums and Technical Schools of the Republic of Cyprus.

The competition aims to challenge the contestants to deal with a topic of their choice (discovery, invention, application, etc.) related to science, research and innovation, which has contributed to the upgrading of quality of life and is related to the topics covered by the 5 EU Missions:

  1. Adaptation to Climate Change
  2. Cancer (Prevention, cure and improvement of the quality of life of those affected by the disease, including their families)
  3. Restore our Ocean and Waters
  4. Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities
  5. Healthy Soils and Food

Participants will have just three (3) minutes to present this topic to the judges and audience, in a dynamic, creative and engaging way that can inspire others. Presentation language can be either Greek or English.

The Competition will take place on the 29th of September 2023 at the premises of the National State Fair in Nicosia, withing the context of the «European Researchers’ Night 2023», organised in Cyprus by the RIF for the 17th year.

In particular, the “Science Unfold Ambassadors” will be researchers from the Cyprus ecosystem, selected by the RIF based on their interest and expertise in topics covered by the EU Missions and/or science communication. Those participants who wish to do so, will be able to contact the RIF to arrange a 30-minute online meeting with one of the “Science Unfold Ambassadors”, during which they will have the opportunity to test the presentation of their idea and receive feedback and guidance by the Ambassador.

The first three winners of the Competition in each category (Gymnasiums, Lyceums and Technical Schools) will be announced on the same day during a special award ceremony and will win gift vouchers of €200, €150 and €100 from a tech store.
